Part-Time English Tutor | Upper East Side, NY

A lovely family on the Upper East Side is seeking a part-time English-speaking tutor for their 4-year-old daughter to assist primarily with her English language skills. The child’s native tongue is Mandarin, and she attends a school where her lessons are taught in English. The family is looking for a candidate who can consistently teach 4 days a week for 30 to 90 minutes, depending on what the candidate recommends for the child’s attention span and successful progress. The days would be Tuesday and Thursday during the timeframe of 3:15pm to 5:30pm, Friday between 12:30pm to 3:30pm, and Sunday between 1:30pm to 5:30pm. The family will work with the candidate to determine the weekly scheduled times. Only local candidates within reasonable commuting distance will be considered.

• Develop age-appropriate lesson plans to teach English skills, including vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and numbers
• Foster and encourage communication skills
• Assess and use the best teaching methods adapting to the child’s specific needs
• Provide support to help the child improve
• Creatively keep the child engaged and interested in learning
• Monitor the child’s progress and communicate regularly with the child’s parents regarding the child’s development

• Passionate about working with children to help develop their English skills
• Patient, kind, creative, and enthusiastic about teaching
• Previous experience working with young children in a teaching or tutoring capacity
• Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate teaching methods
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Native tongue is English
• Ability to commit to 4 days a week consistently
• Reasonable commute distance to the Upper East Side
• Legal to work in the U.S.

• The family is offering $45 per hour.
